At Kitchen Kreators Ltd., we are pleased to work with clients on installing the Schluter® DITRA-HEAT system in their homes. If you are looking for home addition ideas in Jackson, MS, this can be a great way to improve your home’s comfort, as well as help you keep your floors waterproof and durable for many years to come.
This heated floor system is quick and easy to install, requiring few tools to get the job done. Here’s a quick overview of the benefits of the system and why you should consider adding it to your home.
About the DITRA-HEAT system
The DITRA-HEAT system features a combination of comfortable electric floor warming features with various other functions such as waterproofing, vapor management, uncoupling and excellent structural support that will ensure the floor lasts well into the future.
The floor warming system features a series of loose heating cables and mat system installation. The cables can be placed wherever you want heat under the flooring without resulting in any height differences in the floor, which makes for some very flexible installation opportunities. You don’t even need to worry about adding any self-leveling compounds to keep the cables in place. All of this means significantly less time spent on installation, and nowhere near as much effort put into planning out how you’ll install the system.
Tile has for many years been installed with the use of an uncoupling layer within the tile assembly. The geometric configuration of DITRA-HEAT itself makes this uncoupling much easier and more natural, allowing for more in-plane movement to neutralize some of the potential stresses that would occur between the substrate and tile. This means a much lower chance of cracking and damage to the tiled surface over its lifespan.
Reliable waterproofing is an important feature to have in any flooring system, especially one that’s going to be installed in a kitchen, bathroom or laundry room where it will see much more exposure to moisture. DITRA-HEAT has a polypropylene composition that protects the substrate below the flooring from moisture. This is particularly important in more modern homes that have more moisture-sensitive substrates than you might find in older buildings. This system also provides a means for excess moisture and vapor to get out of the substrate rather than building up inside and getting to the point where it could potentially cause some serious structural damage to your home.
Finally, the system, when applied on a solid foundation in good condition, can support some massive loads, again giving you more flexibility with regard to where you can install it. The loads get transferred from the covering of the tile through column-like mortar structures down to the substrate. The flooring itself is practically incompressible within that tile assembly.
