How To Make The Most Of A Small Sized Kitchen

Having a small sized kitchen can be a challenge but it doesn’t have to be. With a bit of clever planning, you can make the most of your space and still have all the facilities you need. Here are some of our favorite storage ideas for you to try.

Think About Storage

When remodeling a small sized kitchen, the first thing to think about is storage. You don’t need to be a professional organizer to make your cooking space work harder for you and your family. Storing food items in clear bins makes it easier to see what you have and avoid a cluttered mess. A stacked set of plastic drawers for dish towels, sponges and cleaning products also helps to maximize the space under your sink, while making it easy to keep things organized. A narrow, tall drawer for seasonings and oils is another simple solution that won’t take up much space but still keeps cooking essentials within arm’s reach when you need them most. Hanging hooks also provide a catchall spot for things like cutting boards, plants, and other kitchen essentials that you don’t always use.

Open Shelving

Open shelving is a great way to save space in your kitchen, and it’s also an affordable option. It’s much more practical than closed storage, and it can be a great addition to any home. One thing to remember, though, is that it’s important to style your shelves correctly! You want them to look tidy, but you don’t want them to look cluttered or disorganized. When styling your shelves, make sure to group similar items together, so they create a balanced and attractive display. You can mix up items from different styles or textures, too.

Remove Wall Cabinets

Removing wall cabinets is a great way to free up space and make your kitchen appear larger. You can do this by choosing a light color for the cupboards, such as white. Relocating items that aren’t used on a regular basis to a pantry can also save you some space. You can also think about adding extra shelves in corners or across alcoves, depending on your room’s layout and available space. Once you’ve taken the cabinet off the wall, you can then empty the cupboards and gather any loose screws or hinges in a plastic bag or container. These can be saved for reuse if you plan on reinstalling the cupboards later.

Don’t Leave Anything On Your Worktops

Small sized kitchens are notorious for clutter, but one of the best ways to optimize the space is to avoid leaving anything on your worktops. This could be a small appliance or an extra chair, but the result will be a more organized and tidier kitchen. The cheapest and most effective way to do this is by moving some of the more cumbersome items to a nearby pantry or closet. This might be as simple as adding a few shelves to the wall or a dedicated cabinet.

Think About The Lighting

Lighting has a huge impact on your kitchen’s appearance and can make it feel bigger. It can also help you work efficiently and keep shadows from creeping in. The most brilliant lighting designs balance overall ambient light with various types of fixtures that brighten shadowed areas, enhance work areas, and provide decorative accents.
